In the desert in BC

 We you drive down Cariboo Highway, a very dramatic change of scenery happens a little before Cache Creek. It's like you are in the desert all of a sudden, with cacti and super dry land. We wanted to find an Provincial Park where we could stop for the weekend (we try to do a maximum of 4 hours of driving per day and do a no-driving day every 3 days). We opted for Steelhead Provincial Park since it promised a nice beach. The camping operator told us that it is the beginning of the drier climate that goes down to UTAH and Nevada. It turned out to be the perfect spot for a day off!

En descendant l'autoroute Cariboo, un changement de paysage assez draconien se produit juste un peu avant Cache Creek. On dirait qu'on est dans le désert tout à coup, avec des cactus et des terres très arrides. On voulait trouver un parc provincial où passer le weekend (on essaie de conduire un maximum de 4 heures par jour et de ne pas rouler du tout 1 journée sur 3). Nous avons opté pour le parc provincial de Steelhead étant donné qu'il promettait une belle plage. L'opératrice du camping nous a dit qu'il s'agissait du début du climat sec qui descend jusqu'au UTAH et au Nevada. Ce fut l'endroit parfait pour une journée d'arrêt!

:: And I thought I would use my books this weekend... not here! But we found tons of saskatoon berries a couple of days ago and made delicious jam! ::
:: Et moi qui pensait faire usage de mes livres ce weekend... pas ici! Mais nous avons trouvé une tonne de baies d'amélanchier de Saksatoon et nous avons fait de la délicieuse confiture! ::

 

:: The girls had their first real go at mountain biking trails in Kamloops... Let's just say there were some tears... but it was so beautiful! ::
:: Les filles ont essayé des sentiers de vélo de montagne pour la première fois à Kamloops... Disons juste qu'il y a eu des larmes... mais c'était tellement beau! ::

Imagine what happens when there is a fire in such a dry area... and crazy wind to top it off... This is exactly what happened yesterday when we drove through a big forest fire (photos to come later)!

Imaginez ce qui se produit quand un feu se déclare dans un endroit si sec... et qu'il vente à écorner les boeufs par dessus le marché... C'est exactement ce qui s'est produit hier quand nous avons traversé un gros feu de forêt (photos à venir)!
